Ahmad Reza Taheri
This presentation (10 minutes) was presented at the International Seminar on Optimization and Development in Sciences by the Union of Iranian Students’ Islamic Associations in collaboration with University of Pune, India (17 DEC 2009).
The gist of the presentation:
The discipline of Humanities can equip one with a vision, which may not be possessed by the common. It can enlighten the people.
Humanities as a whole, does not regard for the narrow-mindedness of any concept or ideology. The discipline criticizes the past inhumane practices. It rejects many of the traditions once regarded sacred. It develops new ideas and challenges the status quo. The discipline, does not necessarily require religion, it can bypass it. It can reject a divine law and replace it with a human law.
The discipline of Humanities teaches human being to observe the nature, respect animal rights, bring into politics the ethics, develop secular outlook, accept others as fellow beings, and think universal.
